Common Problems

I work across a broad spectrum of psychological difficulty, including anxiety and depression, problems with sleeping and eating, trauma-related difficulties, anger management, relationship problems, or difficulties following a significant stress event, loss or bereavement.

I mostly tend to use a combination of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) approaches to treatment. The treatment I select is guided by the therapeutic needs we identify together.

Assessment and Treatment for Therapy

To begin with, I would arrange an appointment with you for an initial assessment.

Assessment tends to involve one or more sessions depending on your difficulties, and includes a discussion about your current symptoms, as well as a review of your background history and your hopes and goals for treatment.

Once I have gained a better understanding of you and the nature and severity of your problems, we would have a discussion about various treatment options.

In most cases treatment usually entails meeting for a course of 6 - 24 weekly sessions [each of approximately 50 minutes duration]. Treatment may be shorter or longer, or more or less structured, depending on the nature of your problem.

If I think that you would benefit from a referral to another practitioner, such as a specialist therapist or psychiatrist, I would discuss this with you after the assessment or during the initial stages of treatment.
